Founder of her own design consultancy, Design Studio S, Fumie Shibata has produced a range of pieces from communications and furniture to infant products and home appliances. Her most well-known creations include the “Baby Label” series for Combi, the “i-Temp” clinical thermometer for Omron, the “ZUTTO Series” for Zojirushi, and mobile phones for au by KDDI.
Fumie has won a number of awards, including the prestigious iF Product Design Award for the Omron digital thermometer, the “i-Temp” (iF Gold selection) and the Good Design Award for several products, such as the series of mobile phones, “Sweets”, “ZUTTO Series” and more.
Fumie graduated from Musashino Art University in 1990 and worked for the Toshiba Design Center until 1993. She went on to establish her Tokyo-based industrial design consultancy in 1994. Since then, Fumie and her products have been featured in design publications such as Axis Design Magazine, Aera, and Nikkei Design. In 2006 she had a solo exhibition at Design Gallery 1953 in Matsuya Ginza, Tokyo.
Fumie is on the judging committee of the Good Design Award and is a part-time lecturer at Tama Art University.

i-Temp (Digital Thermometer)
Digital thermometer designed under the concept of “Mother’s love.” Its sleek shape gently fits in the user’s hand and embodies both the warmth of human beings and the reliability of medical professionals. The large and flat shape of the probe can stably be held in the armpit. The large LCD ensures easy reading. i-Temp is ideal for everyone - from small children who cannot sit still to elderly people who have difficulties reading small figures.
